Day 10 - Exploring Nova Scotia

Hey friends, today I decided to take a break from visiting Engineering schools and be a different kind of tourist. Anthony and I went around Halifax and some other parts of Nova Scotia for the day, and we had a really great time!

We started our day kind of late (around noon) because we thought we deserved to be lazy for the day after so much travelling. We went for lunch at a place called "Athens", which was a fantastic place to grab lunch in. We basically got a 4 course meal for just over $11 (soup, salad + garlic bread, lasagna, rice pudding), and our server was kind enough to give us a 25% discount after we chatted with him about told him about our trip. After we finished eating, we made our way down to the waterfront and met up with one of Anthony's friends, Summer. We all went to visit the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which I thought was actually very cool. We saw a lot of different model ships from the past (all hand crafted), saw various parts that were discovered from the Titanic, and learned more about the Halifax Harbour Explosion of 1917, all of which was quite fascinating. There were so many more cool things in there, but are too many to mention. We then went down by the waterfront and took pictures with the 3.6 m wave sculpture (which little kids could climb easier than Anthony or I could), and a hung out by the pier.

Summer then had to go to work, so we went to out meet up with another one of Anthony's friends, Morgan. We picked her up from her house, and we proceeded to walk through the Public Gardens and the Halifax Citadel, both of which were very cool to see. The garden's landscaping was beautiful, while the citadel's architecture was intriguing, plus it gave us a really good view of the city because of how high it was. One of the highlights of today was going to visit Peggy's Cove, a classic tourist site for anyone in Nova Scotia. Before we got there, we were warned by about 7 different people to stay away from the black rocks because of how slippery they are and the fatalities that they've caused in the past, so we planned to be extra careful. The drive up was very winding and made me a bit dizzy, but it was worth it for the breathtaking views that we got. I had seen Peggy's Cove in pictures before, but being there in person put any and all pictures to shame. Honestly just being on the Atlantic Coast has been such a wonderful experience, and I'm thankful that we were able to make it over here!

So when we drove back down to Halifax, we decided to all go visit Summer at work as a restaurant called "The Five Fishermen". Funny enough, as we walked into the restaurant, she was about to walk out because she finished her shift, so she ended up joining us for dinner. There wasn't much there that I wanted to eat, so I was mainly there for the company. Funny enough, I ran into the server we had at Athens having dinner at the same restaurant, so that was a very interesting coincidence. After everyone finished their food, I dropped Morgan off at home and we went back to Summer's place. After meeting Summer's boyfriend Zach, we drove down to a board game cafe called "The Board Room", and I thought the gang how to play a few of the games I had picked up over the years.

Overall, today was a very fun day. I love Halifax and the entirety of the Maritimes so much. Tomorrow we get to visit a few more parts of Nova Scotia, and then we get on a ferry and make our way over to Newfoundland!
